The STREICHER offshore drilling rig VDD 400.2 is going to be forwarded by sea

After just 1½ years of engineering and construction, the drilling rig VDD 400.2 is now being delivered by MAX STREICHER GmbH & Co. KG aA. The compact rig, with its fully automated pipehandler, a pipe deck for storing rods and pipes and its partially automated pipe handling crane, is going to be loaded in about 130 modules altogether on four inland water vessels in the port of Deggendorf. From there, the vessels sail on the river Danube to Antwerpen, where the rig gets transferred to a seaworthy cargo ship, which carries on to the destination port Mongstad in Norway. From there, the rig will be transported on special platform supply vessels to the Statoil platform Heimdal. In the fourth quarter of 2014 the operation shall start. The offshore drilling rig will be on the platform in the Norwegian part of the North Sea and is going to decommission and seal existing bore holes permanently.
