Biogas projects are beneficial in several ways: for the energy transition, because biogas makes Germany less dependent on fossil fuels, and for the local energy supply, which benefits significantly from on-site energy production.
The share of renewable energies is set to rise to 65% by 2030. Biogas can play an important role in this. Firstly, because it is produced from renewable raw materials such as biomass. Secondly, because it can be used not only as fuel for vehicles, but also for heating and power generation. And thirdly, because it is available all around the clock.
The BGEA in Arnschwang has the task of adapting the supplied biogas to the necessary parameters of the natural gas network and recording the quality and quantity of the gas flow to be fed in using calibrated measuring devices. Up to 3,500 Nm³/h of processed biogas can be fed in. The plant was officially commissioned at the end of January 2026.
