Over the past two years, STREICHER Tief- und Ingenieurbau Jena GmbH & Co. KG has completely renovated the approximately 2.2-kilometre-long commuter stretch of the B88 federal road between Porstendorf and Dornburg. In addition to widening and partially straightening the route, a 700-metre-long cycle path was also constructed. Due to the high volume of traffic, the work was carried out under full road closure and under considerable time pressure. Limited space between the railway line and the embankment required extensive earthworks and the use of sheet piling. Furthermore, a swamplike biotope needed special measures to be taken. A stable foundation was created through extensive soil stabilisation using several thousand tonnes of hard rock.
Thanks to optimised construction processes and strong teamwork, the project was nevertheless completed on schedule. Since April, traffic has been flowing freely in both directions again.
