STREICHER signs the Contract for the Implementation of Construction Lot 12 of the Rhine Water Transport Pipeline

RWE Power AG awards construction lot 12 of the Rhine water transport pipeline to a joint venture (ARGE) consisting of MAX STREICHER GmbH & Co. KG aA, LEONHARD WEISS GmbH & Co. KG and Epping Rohrvortrieb GmbH + Co. KG.

Dr. Lars Kulik (CEO of RWE Power) recently signed the contracts for the implementation of this comprehensive infrastructure project together with Maximilian Hofmann (managing director of MAX STREICHER), Robert Kreß (managing director of road and network construction at LEONHARD WEISS) and Guido Klein-Hitpaß (managing director of Epping Rohrvortrieb).

STREICHER will be responsible for the pipe construction work, which goes far beyond classic pipeline construction, due to the extraordinary dimensions. The plan is to lay a double pipeline, each approximately 6.7 kilometres long, with a diameter of 2,250 mm and a wall thickness of 22.5 mm. In order to meet these special requirements, the STREICHER team is working on modifying existing equipment and working techniques, as well as manufacturing and preparing specially developed machines and work platforms. The project demonstrates how the STREICHER Group develops tailor-made solutions for technically demanding tasks through combined innovative strength and internal synergies.

The water transport pipeline is a central component of the planned reuse of the Hambach opencast mine. In future, it will transport water from the Rhine to the former coal mining areas and, together with the resulting lake, contribute to stabilising the groundwater level, developing new habitats for animals and plants and opening up long-term opportunities for tourism and renewable energy.
